Mission Statement Good Shepherd Pre-K firmly believes that every child is special and deserves love and respect. At Good Shepherd Pre-K, children are exposed to age appropriate activities where academics, creativity and Catholic traditions are incorporated into our daily activities to help each child grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. With the combination of nurturing activities and the support of their parents as the primary educators, we work as a team to cultivate a positive learning environment for the students in our program.

Philosophy- Good Shepherd Catholic School

The faculty and staff of Good Shepherd School are committed to providing a strong Catholic education grounded in the principles of Faith, Hope and Charity. We are inspired by Christ’s call to holiness…you shall be holy, for I am holy (1 Peter 1:16).

In partnership with Good Shepherd parish, our focus is to provide an environment stressing spiritual growth, educational success, psychological and social stability and physical soundness, providing a sense of well being of mind, body and spirit.

Building on our multi-cultural heritage and the teaching mission of the Church, faculty and staff are inspired by integrating instruction, culture and faith.  We foster a sincere kinship with Christ and therefore each other, as we teach the fundamentals of our faith and build a solid academic
foundation.

We recognize each child as a unique individual with special gifts and creative abilities who grow
and learn through friendly interchange among students of diverse cultures.

Parents are paramount in the education of their children. Together we work to facilitate the
development of the whole person as a dwelling place for Christ and an asset to their community.

The Curriculum

Our pre-k curriculum consists of age appropriate activities that will help the students develop spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. The curriculum incorporates monthly themes and exposes students to academic subject matter aligned with the California standards for preschool. Our diverse program will help instill an interest in learning and encourage the children to maintain their curiosity and learn through exploring as we prepare them for their school experience. It is through play that a child learns important social and problem solving skills.

At Good Shepherd we have Schoolwide Learning Expectations (SLE’s). These are desirable outcomes for every student to achieve by the time they graduate from eighth grade. At an early age we begin to reflect on what we need to do in our daily activities that will help us be: a faith filled Catholic, an active learner, a self-aware individual, and a person of character. The SLE’s are listed in the school handbook, on a poster in our classroom, and on the school website, http://www.goodshepherdbeverlyhills.com.

Another important component to our school is the Character Counts! program involving the six pillars of character. Each month throughout the school year, we focus on one pillar and find ways to live that pillar in our daily activities. The pillars are: trustworthiness, respectful, fairness, caring, responsibility, and citizenship.

On August 26, 2009 we welcomed 18 new three and four year olds, into our preschool class.  In June, 2010, 10 four year olds went on to Mrs. Kim in kindergarten. Eight students remained in pre-k and on August 30, 2010, the doors opened for ten new friends. Eight girls and ten boys left our class in June 2011 to go to kindergarten.
