Week of Dec. 13-17

This week’s theme is Folktales and Fables including stories The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and The Three Bears, and The Lion and The Mouse. We will also prepare for Christmas as we make crafts and wrap gifts with our buddy class.

Please don’t forget to bring in an unwrapped gift for our gift drive. We will wrap the gifts on Wednesday in order to deliver them to church this week.

Don’t forget the Christmas Performance is this Tuesday at 6:30 at Good Shepherd Church. We look forward to seeing you there!

Also, the pre-k class will be shopping at the Santa’s workshop this Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Your children may purchase gifts if they bring money to school on Wednesday.

Friday we will have a Christmas Celebration in pre-k, with a special visitor your children won’t want to miss!

Christmas Program 2010, Dec. 14

On Tuesday evening, 6:30pm Good Shepherd School is holding its annual Christmas Program at Good Shepherd Church.

The students are gathering at 6:15pm in front of the church. Look for Ms. Arnold and Mrs. Cohen. This is a holiday event and all children should be wearing nice holiday attire. After the pre-k class has performed the children will be sent to sit with you for the remainder of the program. Please send them to the front when it is time to sing the Spanish song.

Bring an Unwrapped Gift

This year all students at Good Shepherd will bring an unwrapped gift suitable for their age group. The children will wrap their gifts with their buddies before they are brought to the gift collection at church.  The gifts will be donated to families at our sister parish in Los Angeles. We will wrap the gifts on December 15, but would like to have all the gifts at school on Monday the 13th.

This week, our theme is Castles and Kings with topics including: letter K; Accepting Others; Stories about Kings; and Stories from Around the World. We will also continue to prepare for Christmas with stories, songs and projects, including the annual Christmas door decorating contest on Thursday.

Last week we made a fruit salad and the children had lots of fun cutting the fruit.  Thanks for all the fruit you sent. This Friday we will make a vegetable salad. Please send vegetables to school. This will be a part of our lunch. THANKS!

Winter Wonderland

Tomorrow, Friday December 3, is spirit day as usual.  There is also a Winter Wonderland theme and students are allowed to wear hats, mittens, scarves as long as they bring a $1 to be collected by student council.

Fruit salad

October 11, 2010

Dear Alumni and Friends of Beverly Hills Catholic & Good Shepherd Catholic School:

Good Shepherd Catholic School is proud to be celebrating its 80

th anniversary this year, and I would like to express my gratitude to alumni and friends for the generosity that has been integral to its continued success.

As with all Catholic schools, our fiscal operations rely on tuition, fees and fundraising activities. In reality, this leaves little money available for additional academic resources. Moreover, in an effort to keep tuition at a rate that a majority of families can afford, the tuition and fees do not cover the actual cost of educating a student. Every year, the Parents’ Club sets a fundraising goal in line with bridging that gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating a student. This year that gap approaches $1,000 per student.

During the 2009-2010 school year, the fundraising events hosted by the Parents’ Club added over $40,000 to Good Shepherd’s operating budget. In addition, school parents and friends raised $60,000 for the purchase of Smart Boards for every classroom. That $100,000 was critical to the fiscal health of our school.

This year we are streamlining our fundraising efforts and launching the first annual appeal:

Investing in a Child’s Future. It is our goal this year to raise $125,000. Meeting this goal will allow the school to cover its annual budget shortfall and begin the process of creating a multi-year financial development plan. Enclosed is a pledge envelope outlining the giving levels of the appeal. Please use this envelope when making your contribution. The deadline for the appeal is December 15, 2010. Gifts by credit card or paid over time are welcome, providing that all commitments are submitted by the December deadline and that all are honored in full by the end of the school’s fiscal year, June 15, 2011. Each contribution will be gratefully acknowledged by a letter, suitable for tax purposes. An annual giving report detailing the appeal will be published in the fall of 2011.

If you would like a letter and pledge envelope sent to a family member, friend or business associate, please contact the appeal committee by email, in the care of admissions@goodshepherdbeverlyhills.com.

Thank you for carefully considering your annual gift, and please be assured of my personal gratitude and that of the entire Good Shepherd Catholic School community for your generous donation.

Sincerely,

Sharon Davis
