Parent Club
Good Shepherd has a very active Parent Club. Here are some of the activities they are planning for the 2011-2012 school year:
1) Wed, October 5th Parent Educational workshop. Kim Hartley from Buddy Systems will present a hands on guide for the pro-Active parent
2) Thurs, Oct 20th at 10:20am, Annual Shake-out (Earthquake Drill). Teachers will be given 2-3 index cards with instructions…teacher hurt, child hurt and 1 stairwell and one set of doors will be blocked. Teachers can discuss will students afterwards if hazards in classroom.
3) Mon, Oct 31st, Halloween Costume Parade and Saints parade
4) Wed, Nov 9th at 6:00pm Family Science Night. UCLA students from the neuroscience dept. is coming with 3 different hands-on, interactive presentations about the brain.
5) Tues, Nov 22nd from 9:00-11:00 am Grandparents/Special Friend day. People from Nazareth retirement home and “Young at heart” from parish the parish are invited.
6) Fri, Sat and Sun, Dec 2nd – 4th Scholastic Book Fair at Parish Center
7) Wed, Dec. 14th at 6:00 pm, Christmas program at church
8) Wed and Thurs, Dec 14th and 15th, Santa Secret Shop. Students will have a chance to buy presents for family members and wrap them to put under the tree at home.
9) Sun, Feb 12th from 5:30-8:30 pm, Father/Daughter dance at parish hall. Dads are encouraged to go to 5:30 pm mass then to the dance following with a Valentine theme. This event may change to Sat., Feb 11th , from 5:30-8:30 pm.
10) Wed, Feb 15th , 6:00-8:00 pm parent workshop, internet safety. Speaker: Lori Getz
11) Wed, Mar 28th from 6:00-7:00pm final parent workshop, college planning. Speaker: Galo Medina
12) Sun, April 29th from 11:00-4:00 pm Spring Carnival – Safari Theme (see flier in email already sent home)
13) Thurs, May 31st from 5:00-7:00 pm Mother/Son Night – video game truck with laser tag
PARENT WEEKDAY ACTIVITIES
*hiking group meets each Friday at 8:45 am at Runyon Canyon
*Bible study meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1:00 – 2:30 pm
*Book club will have first meeting in January and currently reading “A Samaritan’s Garden.”
